Incorporating my parents wardrobe into mine.

Many of us consider our parents wardrobe 'outdated' and maybe not with current trends as some of their pieces may date back to the 80s but have any of us actually took time to look deeper into their wardrobe and notice these classic pieces with history? You may even notice some of these items are back in trend or can be adjusted and restyled to fit with current trends. After digging through my parents old wardrobe I can honestly say I'm excited with what I discovered and have enjoyed styling different pieces into my current wardrobe. Not only has it boosted my wardrobe, it has also helped me make sustainable choices as normally old clothes would be chucked away for landfill but I've given these items another chance and bought them to life again. It's also stopped me from purchasing more items online as now I am satisfied with amount of clothes I have now, normally if my wardrobe is feeling a little dull or dry I would turn to online shopping and purchase things I definitely don't need. I want to encourage you too to look into your parents, siblings, grandparents anyones old wardrobe and consider restyling these items into your own. It can also be quite fun hearing stories about when your family had worn these items back in their day. It's also fun maybe doing a bit of cutting and sewing (with permission of course) to make items fit or turn their fabric into something new completely.

Here's some of my favourite items I found in my parents wardrobe and how I styled them.

These are some old khaki cargo trousers from early 90s. These are styled nicely with trainers, white tank and a puffer for the winter months to create a simple street-style look.

This old graphic pink and white baby tee is the perfect Y2K style top that goes with a lot. I styled it simply here with a white mini skirt, probably something I'd wear for a rave or party as a more laidback look.

This vintage, floral multi-print oversized tee gives me 90s hippy vibes as it goes really nice with a simple pair of baggy jeans.

My Mum's classic pale yellow tank top is styled really nicely with these trousers as the colours compliment each other, a simple plain top always balances nicely with other bold/ colourful pieces.

Another sweet Y2K style top, with the words 'earth girl' printed on. Brown is very in at the moment so it's nice to have some more brown in my wardrobe! This top is quite easy to style with anything black, brown or nude.

Styling an item with these jeans again as a denim jacket is a classic piece that goes with just about anything! This jacket is from the 80s and has so much character to it as on the back it has been hand stitched with some 80s bands written on such as 'UFO' and 'Led Zeppelin'.

Another 80s item featuring a band, this item is actually very on trend at the minute as pop-art print tops have come back this year.

Lastly this 'Sports issue 1972' top is one I really liked as the side detailing was really pretty. It was easy to style with a matching bag and some black trousers to create another simple street style look.

I hope this encourages you to take a gander at some old pieces as some of them can easily be bought to life again! If you're really struggling to find anything though, charity shops and vintage sales are also a great place to find some classic pieces and it's still shopping sustainably!
